Arranging international transport — three main categories
At Team Transport, international transport falls into three categories, each handled differently in our planning. Knowing which category your shipment belongs to helps set the right expectations and get you an accurate price.
Category 1: Neighbouring countries (BE, DE, LU)
In practice much like a domestic run: same-day is possible, there is no customs paperwork, and it is billed in euros. Antwerp is roughly 2 hours away, Düsseldorf 3 hours, Luxembourg 4–5 hours. For most customers this is the type of international transport they use daily or weekly.
Category 2: Wider Europe (FR, IT, ES, AT)
Transit times build up to several hours, sometimes a full day. Toll roads along the route. Language matters at delivery. For this category, booking at least 24 hours ahead is ideal — so we can plan efficiently and, where possible, combine your shipment with other runs on the same corridor.
Category 3: Non-EU (CH, GB, NO, BA)
Customs administration is mandatory. We prepare the consignment note and the declaration; depending on the destination, additional permits may be required. For the United Kingdom, for example, an ENS declaration has been required since Brexit. Plan at least 2 working days ahead.
What information do we need?
- Full delivery address in the destination country, including postcode
- An on-site contact (name and phone number)
- A description of the goods — English or Dutch is fine
- Estimated value of the shipment — relevant for customs on non-EU routes
- Business shipments: the recipient’s VAT number for the 0% rate
- Private individuals: only proof of identity on non-EU routes
What to expect on price
International runs are driven by three variables: kilometres (outbound plus return), the type of vehicle, and any waiting time at the border crossing (on non-EU routes). Tolls, vignettes and border formalities are factored in. For an exact price, use our calculator or submit a request.
